Our vision is to reduce food waste throughout the supply chain while making a positive contribution to our climate. As a Berlin-based startup, we regularly recover many tonnes of food oversupply from our partners and bring it back into the cycle. Our technology-based marketplace approach is at the heart of this redistribution.
Redistribution and processing instead of tossing away
We redistribute this perfectly edible food to charitable partner organisations such as "Die Arche Kinderstiftung". So far, we have saved 30 tonnes of food from the bin by redistributing it to Arche. Furthermore, we process food oversupply into delicious products and dishes in our SPRK.manufactory.
Using instead of wasting - SPRK's goal is to reduce food surpluses by six million tonnes by 2030.
Our actions are guided by the United Nations 2030 Agenda with its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in particular Goal 2 (Zero Hunger), Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production),
Goal 13 (Climate Action) and Goal 17 (Partnerships).
Products from our SPRK.manufactory
We produce our sustainable SPRK.manufactory products in Berlin in partnership with, for example, our producer Roots Radicals. In the production process, we use at least 75% perfectly edible food oversupply. Our tomato soup (“Tomate 86%”), for example, is made from at least 86% surplus tomatoes. It is important to us that we produce with food oversupply and only buy when it is really necessary, like with salt.
You can buy products from our SPRK.manufactory in select shops and restaurants in Berlin or order them online. SPRK products and dishes are soon available in “Esswirtschaft'' restaurants in Berlin Adlershof and Südkreuz and in the Factory Kitchen Mitte and Görlitzer Park. More locations will be added soon.

Food waste and our climate
Worldwide, 1.6 billion tonnes of valuable food is wasted annually and in Germany alone, 12 million tonnes of food is wasted every year. One third of all food is thrown away - we want to change that! SPRK works every day to prevent food waste in the supply chain and you can help by eating our sustainably produced products.
Food waste also means an enormous waste of resources such as water, land and energy. In addition, large amounts of carbon dioxide (CO2) are released unnecessarily. 8-10% of global greenhouse gas emissions are caused by food oversupply - that's 4 times more than global air travel. If food waste were a country, it would be the 3rd largest emitter of CO2 after the US and China.
Every kilogram of food that is saved reduces unnecessary CO2 emissions by 2.5 kg, resulting in immense potential to collectively protect the climate by reducing food oversupply.
